My Perfect Pumpkin

My Perfect Pumpkin, originally uploaded by James Douglas.

With our late October weekend calendar filling up quickly and a
beautiful day forecasted for today, we decided we’d better pile in the
van and head up to Carlton Farms to the Pumpkin Patch. Adelle
remembered all the fun we had last year, so she was really excited.
Carlton Farms is a working dairy farm with lots of animals - including
cows of course! We started the day out with a hayride where you could
feed the cows. We expected Adelle to be afraid to feed them, but
Ashlyn’s timidity surprised us. She wanted nothing to do with that!
Same goes for the petting zoo where we looked from a safe distance
instead of actually petting the pigs, cows, goats, chicks, and
turkeys. But then it was off to the races (the duck races, that is)
where both girls had a blast. They set up water pumps and PVC pipes
and you "race" the rubber duckies down the pipes by pumping water up
from the basin below. This was Adelle’s favorite part last year, and
history repeated itself. We were so glad that Ashlyn could enjoy that
this year too. They also had two hay bale mazes (we’re not quite big
enough to enjoy their corn maze yet!). One of the hay bale mazes
required you to turn at every intersection, and Daddy had some trouble
beating that one. Mama didn’t have trouble, but Daddy says she
must’ve cheated. After a visit to the farm store where you can buy
farm fresh milk, eggs, and cheese, we set out to find our perfect
pumpkin. Daddy picked out a whopping 33 lb pumpkin for us to carve in
a few weeks and both girls picked out their own perfect baby pumpkins.
Hope you enjoy the pictures of our fun October day!
