What’s That White Stuff?

The last time it snowed this much in West Monroe was in December 2000. Our
family was only two newlyweds strong back then. A lot has happened to our
family in the 9 years since including 6 homes, 4 cities, 2 kids, and 1 dog!
We’re happy to have been back in West Monroe for this snowfall - not because
of the snow, which we saw a little of in our time in Georgia - but because
we’re home and we’re close to our families.

We’ve been quite busy in the two months since our last post. We packed our
stuff and moved home just in time for Christmas. The girls started at their
new schools. Adelle loves Mrs. Hall’s class at Claiborne. Ashlyn had a
tougher time at first adjusting to McGuire Daycare, but she seems to be
thriving now. We’ve made some new friends and enjoyed celebrating at a
birthday party with two of them at the Children’s Museum in Monroe. But
mostly, we’ve enjoyed hanging out with our grandparents - like when Nana
took us to the Ag Expo or like today, when Mamaw and Papaw played with us in
the snow so Mom and Dad wouldn’t have to miss work. We hope you enjoy the
pictures we’ve posted from the last two months, and now that we’re settled
in a little more, we hope to post more regularly again! (I know our many
followers have been anxiously awaiting this update.)

Build-A-Bear Workshop

Date December 5, 2009

Build-A-Bear Workshop, originally uploaded by James Douglas.

In a moment of insanity, Mama decided it would be fun to take the
girls to Build-A-Bear Workshop at the mall today. Neither of the
girls has ever been, and it sounded like a lot of fun. Apparently
about 200 other people thought it was a good day to do it too:).
Anyway, if you’re not familiar with Build-A-Bear, first the kids pick
out the "shell" of the bear (or other animal). At the next "station"
they can choose to put a sound box in. Adelle chose a giggle and
Ashlyn chose the lullaby song. Then you go to a third station where a
worker helps the kids put the stuffing and a little heart inside the
bear and sew it up for you. Next you wash and brush the bear and then
choose clothes for it. Finally, you name the bear and get a birth
certificate. It’s a good thing we weren’t in any hurry, because the
lines were long and the girls weren’t extremely patient. As we were
checking out, Ashlyn took her shoes off in favor of the bear shoes we
bought for her bear (which obviously produced frustration when they
didn’t fit!). Despite their impatience, the girls were pretty good,
so we treated ourselves to a slice of cookie cake from Great American
Cookie Co on our way out. It was fun, but we would definitely have
preferred for Daddy to be with us! Adelle named her bear "Laughy"
because it giggles and Ashlyn named hers "Pink Princess" (or at least
that’s what Mama interpretted it to be!).

Adelle Lost Her First Tooth!

Date November 9, 2009

Adelle Lost Her First Tooth!, originally uploaded by James Douglas.

While she was at school today, Adelle lost her very first baby tooth
during Reading. Her teacher, Mrs. Morgan, put it in a special
container and sent it home. We first noticed it was loose last
Friday, but she wouldn’t let us pull it (not that we blamed her or
really wanted to pull it!). I guess the tooth fairy will come for a
visit tonight:).
